Description

The Technical Artist acts a bridge between the artists and programmers, ensuring the art content and features are easily integrated into the game, while respecting the artistic vision and technical constraints of the project.  The technical Artist is tasked with creating visual effects in Unity, and with maintaining our character animation rig.  The Technical Artist is the keeper of Art Pipelines, Art Processes, Art Tools and Art file organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Support artists and engineers in the use of the 3D art pipeline and user-facing engine tools
  • Create and revise custom rigs for non-traditional bipedal and non-bipedal characters, and ensure they are ready for animators
  • Provide hands-on support to artists and engineers in regard to asset performance and validation
  • Create visual effects within the Unity game engine
  • Work closely with the Art Director within the visual style of the game to technically achieve the desired look and feel for the product. Evolve the 3D art pipeline tools and extensions with an eye towards usability and efficiency
  • Identify opportunities for tool improvements
  • Solve challenging technical issues in the 3D asset pipeline
  • Collaborate with engineers and testers to diagnose and resolve in-game problems
  • Inspire and empower the art team to optimize their processes

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of maintaining animation rigs in game development, with at least one mobile title shipped
  • Exceptional understanding of mobile asset creation workflows with the ability to improve them
  • Skilled in Maya, Mel scripting and Python for Maya
  • Working knowledge of Substance Painter
  • Working knowledge of Zbrush
  • Strong overall knowledge of the Unity Game Engine
  • Ability to create exciting and dynamic mobile game visual effects, and knowledge of Unity particle systems
  • An amazing team player
  • Ability to take direction well
  • A proficient cross-disciplinary communicator
  • Attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks to specification
  • Great time management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and written

  • Knowledge of character LOD workflows
