Summary

Proletariat Inc. is seeking candidates for a brand new Senior 3D Hard Surface Artist position to work on an unannounced stylized sci-fi game project. The most successful candidate in this role would be a creative and experienced individual contributor who has a passion for creating appealing and believable machinery, gadgets, weapons, and character props in 3D pipelines; can work in a variety of aesthetic styles; understands performance budgets for real time 3D; is a skilled communicator and loves collaborating and contributing on projects. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with our Art Director, Game Designers, Software Engineers and Product Managers to design and iterate on 3D in-game assets.
  • Translate sketches and fully realized concepts into aesthetic and believable 3D models of machinery, props, and weapons
  • Can be relied upon to work within production schedules for timely creation of 100% technically solid art
  • Work in UE4 (or equivalent) and other 3D authoring software to create game assets from rough draft through production quality
  • Work with Art Director and other artists on the team to ensure that 3D assets meet aesthetic quality expectations and technical requirements
  • Use independent judgment and creative problem solving outside of established task specifications.
  • Solicit and apply regular feedback from Leads, Art Director and other Stakeholders.
  •  quality control of assets produced by outsourcers, and provide feedback, materials, and guidance to outsourcers in order to maintain aesthetic consistency on projects
  • Works with Project Management to maintain clear and consistent goals
  • Works in an organized manner. Can follow data structure and provide feedback.
  • Motivates peers toward excellence.
  • Generates and meets time estimates

 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a 3D artist role, creating and delivering high quality 3d art in an iterative, agile environment.
  • Experience shipping at least 3 games as a 3D Artist specializing in hard-surface design preferred
  • Experience creating appealing hard-surface assets that are ready for animation and  meet performance budgets using a variety of tools including; Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter and UE4 (or equivalent)
  • Experience creating assets in both realistic PBR and more stylized material pipelines
  • Understanding of traditional art principles including composition, design, shape language, and color theory
  • Understanding of industrial design principles including innovation, aesthetics, thoroughness, and ease of use as well as development, proportion, and mechanical functionality
  • Experience working with external service providers/outsource teams
  • Excited to improve visual skills, learn new techniques and applicable technology.
  • Self-directed, receptive to critique and feedback
  • Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate
  • Has working knowledge of the games industry and keeps up with innovative games and games that set high visual bars.

  • Is considered a problem solver
  • Illustration/Concept Design experience a plus
  • Enjoys playing a wide variety of games
