GDC 2009 – Job Hunting

GDC is just around the corner (March 23-27), and as I’ve written before, video game conferences are a great place to look for job opportunities.  GDC has an entire area of the show dedicated to job hunters – the Career Pavilion.  If you haven’t been before, it’s a large conference hall filled with recruiters from all of the major video game companies.  They’ve each got their own booth set up, and are looking to talk with potential candidates.  It’s an incredible opportunity to sit down and talk with them face to face, and should not be missed if you’re in the area.  An expo pass runs around $200, and there’s obviously travel expenses involved if you’re not in the San Francisco Bay Area.  If you’re balling on a budget (as a lot of job hunters are), it can be a little spendy, but it really is something that shouldn’t be missed if you can swing it.

It’s not going to include EVERY company that’s looking for employees, obviously.  The booths (both the space and the buildouts) aren’t cheap, so some smaller companies just aren’t going to be able to afford to exhibit.  Keep your eyes peeled, though – I was at the show last year, and I saw more than one sign being carried around at a party that read something like, “Are you a programmer?  Let’s talk!”

The show is packed, so make sure any materials that you have (resume, cover letter, business cards, etc.) are top notch!

Welcome to SilverTree Media

I want to welcome SilverTree Media to GameJobHunter.com – they recently posted several of their job listings here.  SilverTree has worked on some intersting projects with Disney Interactive, and have a very distinctive visual style.  Cool looking stuff.

One of the interesting things about working on this site is learning about the many unique video game companies out there like SilverTree.  I did a post a while back on top North American cities for game development, and I’m always intrigued to see companies that are located in cities outside of the traditional hubs for game development (LA, San Francisco, Vancouver, etc.).  SilverTree is located in Pittsburgh, and I was surprised to see that they were not alone.  It looks like Pittsburgh has a solid community of game developers.

Welcome once again to SilverTree Media – make sure and check out their listings!

Site Redesign

I apologize for the long delay between posts, but we’ve been a little busy.  ;)

We’ve been working on a complete site redesign of www.gamejobhunter.com, and we’re very close to releasing the final product.  It’s required a bit of work, but we feel like the new version is going to be MUCH easier to use, and I think everyone will be happy once it’s out (I know I will).  We’re literally down to 2-3 final kinks to work out, and once those are fixed, we’ll be flipping the switch.

If you’re an employer who has already registered with us, we’ll have any ads that are still current transferred for you.

We’ll have several new job listings posted when the site is updated, so make sure and check back soon!
